Job Description: The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is now accepting applications for exciting Transportation Maintainer 3 (Auto/Mechanic) roles with a target class of Qualified Craft Worker (Auto/Mechanic) in multiple locations throughout District 3 (see above). Job Responsibilities: You must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) A or B, with "tank endorsement," and a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) to apply. If invited to interview you will be required to produce a copy of your current valid CDL Class A or B, reflecting "tank endorsement," valid MEC, and a thoroughly completed Connecticut Department of Transportation Commercial Driver Supplement (CTDOT-CDL-1) form. You must be willing to accept emergency overtime duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever your services are needed. Mandatory winter overtime is from November 1st to April 30th. Various storm events will require employees to stay at work for the duration of the storm, which at times could be up to a period of several days, to include holidays and weekends. You must meet the 20-mile residency requirement from the job location (see above). Job Requirements: Two (2) years of experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of roadsides, roadways, bridges or airports, in work involving the operation and care of mechanical equipment, or in work in one of the recognized maintenance trades. Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of the subject requirements in one of the maintenance trades may be substituted for the General Experience. Experience with diesel repairs and performing B-Tech level repairs. Experience performing light/heavy truck, small engine, and construction equipment maintenance/repairs to various makes and models including diagnostic testing. Experience using automotive repair software, including diagnostic and repair information research and vehicle electric system diagnostics. Experience in the areas of repair welding and fabrication. Experience in basic hydraulic system and diagnostics repairs. Experience with basic computer programs and recordkeeping.
