Job Description: This position is part of the Deputy Administrator for Naval Reactors, Department of Energy. This position is covered by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Demonstration Project. The NN-04 pay band is equivalent to the GS-14-15 grade levels. Job Responsibilities: Serve as cognizant engineer responsible for canned motor pumps. Serve as a subject matter expert for the research, development, design, acquisition, specification, construction, inspection, installation, certification, testing, overhaul, refueling, operating practices and procedures, maintenance, supply support, and ultimate disposition of naval nuclear propulsion plants. Provide engineering advice, guidance and assistance to program offices or site managers on the interpretation and application of technical requirements and policies, evaluation of modifications and/or alternative approaches, and corrective actions as required. Develop internal policy guidance and other documents which may lead to changes in policy or program direction. Participate in a technical advisory capacity and represent the interests and position of the office in meetings, panels, and conference with other federal agencies, state agencies, national laboratories, contractors, and/or other stakeholders to present briefings/speeches, evaluate and assess technical research and development reports and plans, and present issues, problems, impacts, and solutions. Participate on ad-hoc teams comprised of other engineers in the government and the private sector in conducting broad policy studies. Provide oversight and coordinating with diverse entities such as organizations within the Navy, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, reactor plant design laboratories, and shipyards. Perform a variety of duties associated with Naval Nuclear Propulsion work, including (but not limited to): VIRGINIA Class Submarines/UK Technology Exchange, Commissioned Submarines, Advanced Submarines, Prototype/MTS Ship Operations, Reactor Refueling, Reactor Engineering, Surface Ship Systems, Instrumentation and Control, Reactor Plant Components/Auxiliary Equipment, New Ship Designs, Surface Ship Propulsion, Advanced Technology, Nuclear Technology, Reactor Materials, Nuclear Components, Regulatory Affairs, Shipyard Matters, and/or Reactor Safety. Qualification & Experience: Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate professional field, provided you have had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum.
