Job Description: The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner – Western District is seeking a hourly/wage Medicolegal Death Investigator. This position will work rotating shifts that include day, evening, overnights, weekends and holidays. This position is responsible for investigating deaths that fall under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Incumbent will be responsible for handling deaths reported via the telephone, facsimile machine, in person, etc., responding to death scenes, data collection, real time data base entry, preparing and filing reports, document review, handling evidence, moving remains, assisting with the identification of remains and determining the necessity for an autopsy or further examination at the district office. Ability to inspect bodies and obtain samples for study is required. Involves possible exposure to hazardous substances/dangerous materials. Job Requirements: This position requires a knowledge of laws and standards of medical investigation, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, forensic pathology, police and forensic science and pharmacology. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must have strong keyboarding and typing skills allowing for real time, quick and accurate data entry of large amounts of case information into a database. Must be able to compose documents, use a digital camera and print digital photographs. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Forensic Science, Health Science, Criminal Justice, or closely related field is preferred. Experience in law enforcement or ME/C office is preferred. Prefer experience in death scene investigations, identification of human remains, and experience applying medicolegal death investigation technique and standards. ABMDI certification is preferred.
