Job Description:

As a Cartographer your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and maintain geographic products using Geographic Information System (GIS), and Global Positioning System (GPS) hardware and software, to meet office needs, and develop/improve geographic tools for managers to make resource determinations.
  • Instruct others in the support of user-friendly applications for managing, viewing, mapping, analyzing, and presenting spatially oriented hydrologic, fish, wildlife, and habitat information.
  • Carry-out GIS suitability analysis for aquatic species and habitat across watersheds in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho using GIS and Hydrologic data.
  • Develop methods and data necessary from multiple sources to support modeling of conservation goals and habitat based objectives and work with data to synthesize, analyze, interpret, and communicate the results. Both traditional GIS software and Internet based GIS applications are used.
  • Research, compile, verify, and update information from Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and a variety of national and state resource agencies.
  • Carry-out office and field based data collection, compilation, verification, and analysis; compile data into non-spatial related databases and related geographic databases and produce completeness and data needs reports by facility for technical coordinators.
  • Using GIS software and data protocols creates maps and edits existing ones. Makes recommendations and participates in the development of methods to improve the map production performance of the program.
