Job Description:

George VA Medical Center is seeking an ED Physician 1 vacancy (Intermittent) position at Asheville, North Carolina. The physicians practice medicine in accordance with their professional training and experience and within the scope of their medical center privileges. Intermittent physicians are expected to work an average of 4 – 6 shifts per month and have flexibility to fill gaps in the schedule.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides the primary clinical treatment to patients of the medical center.
  • Provides a full range of clinical services including assessment and using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care in their specialty.
  • Performs appropriate evaluation and management of patients.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions to units/programs in the Medical Center to which they are assigned and has clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation, and management.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decision.
  • Ensures that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, GARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA policies.
  • Specific tasks are itemized in each physician’s Credentialing and Privileging package.
  • Provides a full range of clinical services including assessment and using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care in their specialty package.

Job Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period
  • Subject to a background/security investigation
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccination programs are requirements for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
